Feb '18 Contacted by Wharton Sheriff Department asking if Ranch Critters could assist in finding places for these neglected horses and within 48 hours ALL of them were safe and on the way to a complete recovery with their new families

May '18 Update: Wynonna arrived safe and sound at her wonderful new home in Colorado.
This special little girl was born at Ranch Critters and from her first day it became clear she was destined to accomplish great things. She will be missed but we look forward to seeing her mature and thrive in her new home

Volunteer appreciation & A special surprise...
This past weekend was volunteer appreciation weekend and for one of our volunteers we had a very special surprise.
Bonne Beachy was awarded the very FIRST annual SPRIRIT AWARD in recognition of all that she has done for us these past years! Bonnie has been with us through thick and thin, and we wouldn't be here without her - THANK YOU BONNIE!

Both TROUBLE & HAMMY have been ADOPTED!!!! Woohoo!
We will miss them on the farm but are excited they have found their forever home!
Recently we came across three minis: Little Butter Bean, Cinnamon, and Peanut! They are available for adoption - check them out HERE.
They were on their way to slaughter but we diverted them to the Ranch, where their healing can now begin!
The pregnant mare unfortunately lost her baby due to the stress, but she is healthy now and they are ALL SAFE!

In Case you missed it...the directors have gone MAD!
Was it the heat or an explosion of hormones??? We may never know but for whatever reason the Ranch Critter Directors traveled to Skydive Spaceland and took a leap out of a plane!!! This makes horseback riding seem like couch surfing!!!
Thanks to our ground crew who supported our adventure(we don't have any money...remember we run a rescue) so they must love us!! HEEHAW!!! Horse back riding and skydiving all in the same weekend!!!!

The arena is fully covered so no worries about rain!

Alright HeeHaw Crew - An IMPORTANT (LONG) MESSAGE – PLEASE READ!
Many people don’t realize how much it actually costs us to save all these animals.
Well here are the BARE-BONE numbers -
$275 for an adult horse
$315 (and up) for a senior horse
BUT IN REALITY, there is never a year without an EMERGENCY... SO THE ACTUAL COST OF RUNNING THE RANCH CRITTERS IS:
WE ARE GREATFUL to all our monthly donors, one-time donors, donors in kind, AND donors in time!
But unfortunately that alone is not enough.
So if you are annoyed by the increase in posts from this page, we do apologize, but the truth of the matter is at the rate we are saving horses and the lack of funding this endeavor will not last much longer.
We have saved 130 HORSES in just a few short years, and WANT TO SAVE SO MANY MORE!
WE ARE ASKING TODAY, that anyone who can and is willing to, that they sign up to sponsor a horse, donate, or even find corporate sponsors.

We are starting a new safety program for all volunteers, regardless of how long you've been with us. We want to start everyone in the same place, no "grandfathering" in. This will be effective immediately.
VOLUNTEER SAFETY COURSE I (Basic volunteer safety/orientation) will help us ensure that all volunteers handling horses and the horses themselves will be safe - $5 donation to cover costs of printing materials
Until you each receive your HeeHaw Safety Certification, you will not be able to participate in horse management. Please note all CHILDREN LESS THAN 16 yrs of age must be accompanied by an adult.
PLEASE SEE THE CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR ALL CLASS OFFERINGS
You must attend one of these trainings to receive your certification. Both classes will start promptly on time. If you are unable to attend either training, we will offer a third training sometime in April before the fundraiser.
You will receive a handbook and certificate of completion.
Each individual will be able to physically and mentally demonstrate proper horse handling techniques after the training. We will demonstrate and walk you each through all the components and you will each be individually tested.
TOPICS: safety in pasture, catching, properly latching gates, proper haltering technique, grooming techniques, identification of basic horse body parts, and routine ranch chore expectations.
We will also be implementing a "three strikes" safety policy that will remove you from handling the horses until you have retaken the course. Please understand that we strongly feel that safety is first at all times.
Rules at the Ranch are to be followed at all times in order for all of us to have a positive experience.
We are also planning a second course - VOLUNTEER SAFETY COURSE II (RIDING) for those of you interested in riding any of the horses here at the Ranch. This new HeeHaw Rider Safety Program will be 4-6 weeks with a $150 donation fee. Anyone interested must first pass the Volunteer Safety Course then you will be allowed to sign up for the Rider Course. The goal of this program is to have qualified, safe riders help us condition the horses.
**Participation as volunteer and/or rider is a privilege and may be revoked at either director's discretion (Charlie Renken or Gwen Murphy).

The Ranch Critter family had to say goodbye to two family members in October '18 Our beloved Tank, who for years has greeted each visitor to RC with a wagging tail and an open heart.... and Honey, a 29 year old quarter horse who came to RC with injuries resulting from years of 'serving the humans' ..... at least we were able to give her a stress free life during her time with us.... R.I.P.
